As a huge fan of the 'original' Lynyrd Skynyrd band this documentary is outstanding. Music quality is great, couldn't ask for a better movie.
I bought the DVD because some reviews said that the Oakland show was on it.The Oakland Skynrd show is great, however it is not part of this DVD.
very good quality. great documentary. what an excellent band and a very sad ending to a group that was so beloved. tragic
The menus are a little wild, but well worth putting up with for the great music & the great footage of Ronnie and co. It's well worth buying just for "Freebird The Movie" alone.
Mayhew reviews. I have to agree with the cd-heaven and Richard P.
Maybe the video is not the greatest and maybe the audio is not 5.1 or dts, but it is still fantastic. I think there is some fantastic footage in this dvd.
If you grew up in the 70's as I did, Ronnie's lynyrd IS THE ONLY Lynyrd, and this is about as good as it gets from back then. The tribute tour is worth watching at least once though.
I hope that some of the younger guys and girls that only know the later Lynyrd watch this and see what Lynyrd Skynrd is really all about.
I honestly don't get whoever edited this. Man these guys were great. Such a shame -- 3 or 4 camera shoot.
and Mr Editor chooses crowd reaction shots. Can't deny the band didn't do their part though. Really -- you have perhaps one of the most amazing musical moments ever -- Collins, Rossington and Gaines WAILING on Freebird.
Kind of wasted on cheesy editing. Plus, during some of the great leads in other song, the editor chooses close ups of Ronnie (cool once in a while) or he zooms in on whoever's playing rhythm. Talk about asleep at the AVID.
Killer Skynyrd. I wonder if other shows were shot from this era.
